Coaching vs. Counseling

Coaching and counseling serve as valuable forms of support, each with its distinct focus and approach. Coaching revolves around setting and achieving goals, personal development, and performance enhancement, often in areas like career advancement or personal growth. It's action-oriented and future-focused, aiming to empower individuals to reach their full potential. On the other hand, counseling is centered on addressing emotional, psychological, or mental health issues, delving into past experiences and emotions to promote healing and growth. While coaching targets those seeking improvement in specific areas of their lives, counseling is typically sought by individuals facing distress, mental health challenges, or significant life difficulties.

Our Adventures in Wisdom™ curriculum combines the following systems to help your children thrive in every way possible.  WISDOM System; ACE IT System, and Storytelling

WISDOM System

The WISDOM System for Coaching Kids uses the skill books from the Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching Program for Kids Curriculum to help children achieve 6 areas of transformation in their lives.

WISDOM is an acronym for these areas of transformation!

W -- Wire your mind for happiness, confidence, and success in life with MindPower. With MindPower, kids develop an empowered way of thinking. They learn that their thoughts create their lives and that they have the power to choose their thoughts. And the learn the brain science behind it!

I -- Identify who you want to be and what you want for your life with InnerPower. With InnerPower, kids develop their inner compass – their inner guidance system for who they want to be in the world. They develop core values of self-leaders (self-responsibility, integrity, respect, and self-respect) and learn how to say no to peer pressure and yes to themselves.

S -- See your inner superstar and shine with MePower. With MePower, kids develop powerful self-esteem and strong self-confidence from the inside out! Kids learn to feel great about themselves no matter who they are with or what is going on in their lives AND how to believe in themselves, even when things don’t go their way.

D -- Dream Big, Live with Purpose, and Make it Happen with DreamPower. DreamPower helps kids learn how to create a vision for their lives so they live life with intention versus drifting through life. They learn how to use goal setting to turn their vision into action and how to use the Law of Attraction tools of Visualization, Affirmations, and Gratitude to “program” their mind for success. With DreamPower kids learn how to make their dreams come true…without the fairy.

O M -- Overcome obstacles and Manage the Ups and Downs of Growing up with Slaying Dragons. Slaying Dragons helps kids handle the “tough stuff” and build resilience. They learn how to move through fear and “go for it” in life. They learn how to manage mistakes, disappointments, and failure so they don’t get down on themselves or give up on themselves. They learn how manage and embrace change so that fear of the unknown doesn’t hold them back in life and they learn how to avoid conditional thinking and go for their dreams.

ACE IT System

The Adventures in Wisdom™ ACE IT System for Learning and Taking Tests and it helps children develop skills in 5 key areas for academic success.
ACE IT is an acronym for these areas of transformation!

A - ACE IT Attitude!
No matter how smart children are, if they don’t have a positive attitude about school and about grades then they won’t do well. Attitude is even more important than aptitude when it comes to success in school and success in life. Kids learn how to how to develop a learning mindset that will inspire them to become lifelong learners. Intelligence isn’t something you are born with, it is something you develop.

C - Create a Mindset for Success
Adventures in Wisdom™ programs are all about mindset development. At the heart of mindset development is understanding the power of belief systems – how to recognize and shift limiting beliefs and how to proactively create supportive beliefs. Children learn why they achieve what they believe – they can’t do well in school unless they believe they can well in school.

E - Effective Learning Skills
Learning to learn is a skill. With Effective Learning Skills, kids learn:

  • How to use different learning styles to stimulate multiple areas of their brain and enhance their learning.

  • Why continuous studying is more effective than cramming (and the brain science behind it).

  • How their memory works and techniques they can use to recall information. ü How multitasking impacts their brain, reduces learning, and increases the amount of time it takes to complete their homework.

  • How to create an effective homework routine that optimizes their brain power and reduces homework time.

I - Intention, Integrity, Inner Calmness
Everything starts with Intention! Kids learn how to set their intention before taking a test so that their thoughts are working for them, not against them. They also learn why integrity is critical to success in school and how to stay cool under pressure (create “Inner Calmness”) when taking tests.

T - Test Taking Strategies
Having a strategy for taking test will help kids have the best chance to recall what they have learned and to bring home a great grade. In this segment, kids will learn the “SMARTS” strategy for taking tests. SMARTS is an acronym that represents 6 test taking strategies that will work every time!

STORY system

STORY

S – Share Story to lay foundation of knowledge
Share the Adventures in Wisdom™ Coaching Story to lay a foundation of knowledge for the child. Through the story, children see the impact of the problem that the characters face and how mindset skills are used to resolve the problem.

T – Talk about the story and have children relate it to their lives
Use discussion questions to discuss the story with the children. Discussion helps children apply the skills to their own lives.

O – Organize activity to give children a hands-on experience
Activities such as role plays and art projects give children an opportunity to further experience the skill.
• Practicing enables children to strengthen their learning (and neural pathways).
• Art projects give children a visual reminder of the learning that they can take home with them.
• Games and outdoor activities for children.

R – Review with parent and provide a WISDOM for Home Sheet
We encourage parents to attend the last 10 minutes of their kid’s session/workshop and give children an opportunity to share what they are learning with their parent(s). We also share a WISDOM for Home take home sheet with the parent(s) so they can continue the conversation at home. This deepens learning between sessions.

Y – Yes! Confirm knowledge with Wise in Fives
We Wise in Fives review sheets to practice the skill learned in the previous session or prior life experience.
